Sports and games have been an integral part of human existence since the earliest days. Though the games played and the way they are played has changed over the centuries, yet sports continue to be an important part of our modern lives.

As a child we make our best friends with the other kids of our age who like the same games as we do. Through school and college sports provide us a way to break the routine humdrum and monotony of the student life. Also, many things that the formal environment of a school fails to teach us can be learnt on the informal setting of a playground. As a very well known proverb goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Then as adults, sports provide us with the dual pleasure of playing and watching. Playing sports as an adult is an excellent way to stay healthy and watching sports, as we all well know, is a good way to spend some time away from the tensions of life and work.

A game can be seen as a short version of life. You have your ups and downs, and you have to deal with them and, at the same time, give your best performance. You have to be competitive but you don’t have to let it take hold of you to the extent that you stop enjoying the game. For, the important thing is to play, and play well, just like it is important to live and live well regardless of what life throws in your way. Many sports can help a person learn teamwork, and teamwork is such an important attribute in a person and can help him go a long way in his personal as well as professional life.

I have really never been any good in any sport, yet that has never stopped me from playing any game that I have got a chance to play. That, in a way, has taught me that one must try, no matter what, because some of the most memorable moments have to do with sports, one way or another.

You are so right about games. Here in San Marcos, Texas, we have the Special Olympics games for individuals with handicaps.

It is just as exciting as any olympic event and the happiness these folks display when they compete or, better, win, is a fine thing to see.

People who do not talk and walk with their heads down will slowly straighten up, look you in the eye and start to walk with confidence.

Happy Sunday!

A really cool part of games and in particular physical games like soccer (football to the rest of the world) is when a team pulls together. When people start supporting each other, working together and generally put the team above the individual.

Msdemmie: Happy BYB Sunday to you and hope you have a great week ahead.

Cybercelt: I am sure it must be just as exciting as any Olympic event and sports are a great leveller. On the field, everyone0 is equal, there are no caste, creed, society or community divides. We are all players!

Whatever:Team work is an integral part of most sports and most things we do in life. And a lesson well learned on the playfield can hold us in good stead in life.

Kuanyin: Happy BYB Sunday to you too and may you have a great week ahead!

Nancyrowina: As stev said, Yoga and swimming are sports too and I am sure like all other sports they are a lot of fun too.

Stev: Winning is important but its not the only thing!
