Terror strikes again!

After trying, for more than an hour, to do an audio post, I finally gave up and decided to do a regular post instead.

Yesterday, Hyderabad, a city in Andhra Pradesh, was rocked by twin blasts that killed almost 42 people and injured several others. At around 7:40 PM on Saturday, about 500 people were gathered at Lumbini Park to watch a laser show when the first of the two blasts ripped off several rows of seats. About 10 people were killed on the spot and 29 others had to be taken to the hospital. The park was not at a very great distance from the state secretariat, and thus the area was supposed to be a secure one. About 15 minutes later, at Gokul chaat, a crowded eatery, frequented by the locals, was rocked by another blast that killed about 32 and injured 21 others.

It being a Saturday, there were more than the usual number of people at both the places. People who had gone out to relax and enjoy the weekend, did not realize that this was going to be the last time they were ever going to leave their homes. It is reported that two other live bombs were recovered from other locations that were defused before they could explode and kill more people.

It is not the first time that Hyderabad has suffered as a result of terrorist attacks. Almost 100 days back there had been an explosion in the Mecca Masjid in the city that had killed 11 people. From initial investigations it is reported that the organization HUJI (Harkat-ul Jihad Islami ), which was responsible for the earlier Mecca Masjid blasts, is responsible for the attacks of yesterday too.

This points at a gross intelligence failure in the state. Their had been warnings that militant activities were going on in the city and a couple of suspicious people had been caught in the city in the past few days. And yet, the police were unable to prevent the bomb blasts though the city had been rocked by a bomb blast only a few days back. The government had then promised that anything like that would not be allowed to happen again. But it has, and the people in the city are now leading a life of terror and fear. What is even more worrying is that the first blast took place very close to the state secretariat, which is a sensitive and a very high-security zone.

Another disturbing fact is that Hyderabad is a city with a diverse population, and at times like these, it is very easy for rumors to spread, communal tensions to flare up and riots to happen. Let us all get together and pray for the people of Hyderabad city, and hope that they get the strength to fight this one out.

My goodness, this is very sad and frightening. I'm sorry. All affected and the place itself are in my prayers.

God bless your Sunday.

They will be in my thoughts, and prayers. This is just so horrible that I do not have the words to really express how I feel......

Sometimes, the planet... or more appropriately, the bi-pedal inhabitants of it... suck.

Every time I hear about a "terrorist" attack undertaken ESPECIALLY in the name of ANY God or spiritual philosophy, I wonder if those responsible really know how much they are hurting the other's who share their views that are trying to worship peacefully and/or make changes to the way things are properly and without violence.

I don't know what else to say... other than there IS a day of reckoning... and it's everyday someone dies because someone thinks that a terrorists bomb is the way to make things "happen".

All that happens is it usually strengthens the resolve of those who are diametrically opposed to the terrorists point of view... and begets more violence.

Of course, we shall prayer for them. What else can we do? How do we stop this kind of thing? It's frustrating that there is such disregard for life by so many. We'll all be gone soon enough. We don't need any help exiting this world.
