BYBS : A Written Down Goal

(To join Blog Your Blessings Sunday, and get your name on the blogroll, click on the banner above and follow the simple instructions.)

Most people, it is said, live their lives without really knowing what it is that they want from their lives. They just live on, from one day to another, doing whatever it is that they feel is expected from. Usually, at the end of the day, such people do not feel very happy. I am sure almost everyone will agree with me when I say that no one can please everyone. In fact, it is not even possible to please just one person all the time, because, however hard one may try, the expectations of the other person will just be a little bit more.

But, the secret to happiness is not achieving what others expect from us. The secret of happiness is achieving what we expect from ourselves, and what we want for us.

Now, here is where the whole problem lies. We usually do not know what we want. We usually begin to want what we see others wanting. Then when we don't get that, we feel frustrated, or if we are able to get that we feel empty, because this was never what we wanted.

So, what can we do?

The simplest - and the most obvious - thing to do is to take a break and spend some time to think about what we want from our lives. An even better thing would be to have a written down goal for our life. This written down goal has to emerge after a lot of thinking has gone into the process of arriving at it. This written down goal will, then, act as a light house and will keep the ship of our lives afloat in the turbulent seas of this world.

And reasonable goals to begin with helps us be successful and then we can expand the goals because we have learned to be accomplish the smaller ones. . . which are just as important but might be easier accomplished when working on them.

Had hoped to see you comment last week but it didn't happen -- hope you can make some rounds this time.

Happy BYB Sunday! Blessings. . .

Without defined goals we lead into the lower life condition of Animality

Amen ... taking time to reflect and clarify our goals from within certainly does help keep us on the path we're here to follow, avoiding the distractions that might waste our time and energy.

Funny, I used to have goals. In college we made 2-5-10-20 goals and state how we would achieve them.

I look at these goals now and I see my life took an entirely different turn.

Provided one always has a target, one should always have an idea of the path that's needed to find that target... and that, in essence, give life a focus. Excellent blessing!
