I remember the time when as a little boy I used to look forward to the end of a day so that I could get into bed and wander off in to the beautiful world of dreams. Then, as I grew up a bit, monsters appeared in that world and I used to be a little scared (sometimes very scared) getting into bed. Finally, as I entered adulthood, the monsters disappeared, but so did the sleeping hours.

First it was studies and school that began to steal the sleeping hours. Once that was over, along came work, TV, Computer and a myriad other activities that began to compete with sleep for the available time, and won.

Various studies have indicated that an average adult needs about six hours of sleep every day. This is an average figure and varies from person to person. But honestly, how many of us are sleeping for six hours every day?

Though we fail to realize this, but sleep is a great blessing as it is the only thing that keeps us sane. When we are at our lowest and life seems to have become a drag, sleep comes to the rescue, sooner or later. If it didn’t come, I think, we would sink deeper and deeper into our cup of woes, to the point of no return. But, once we fall asleep we forget our worries for a few hours and our brain gets a chance to revive, so that it can think coherently the next day and fight back.

Similarly, when we are joyous, we would just go on partying and having a good time, stretching the limits of our mind and body in the process. But sleep, the best friend that it is, overcomes sooner or later, and gives us the rest that we need.

A good nights sleep slows down the ageing process and helps us to stay young. We feel fresh and alive after we have slept well, and proper sleep definitely helps in improving a persons overall well-being.

So, there are countless benefits from sleep that is ours for the taking, any time, any place and free of charge. What can be a greater blessing than that?

Hi!

I must be truly blessed because I sleep at least 8 hours per night. I also nap during the day if I have a chance.

Have a great week.

I can relate to your post this week. I slept until 10:30 a.m. today and awoke feeling ready to take on the day. It is such a blessing to be able to do that one day per week! I really look forward to it!
