Like all major festivals and Holidays, Holi, too, has many stories attached to it and you can read one of the more famous and widespread stories here.
Holi is truly a festival of colours. It comes at that time of the year when the cold winter is ready to leave, and the warm, open, summer weather is just around the corner. People get out of their houses in the morning in a group and visit their neighbor’s who join the group and thus the group keeps getting bigger and bigger. People make and buy sweets to offer to anyone who happens to visit their house. All this time, colours are flying around and everyone ends up having at least ten shades of colour on him or her. It becomes hard to recognize who is who with all the colours on one’s face and in one’s hair.
The great thing about this festival is that on this day even enemies forget their grudges and become friends once again. Many a times we realize that it was a big mistake to have fought with a friend and you want to be friends again but do not want to be the first to say so. This day provides one with a perfect opportunity to become friends again without having to say anything about what happened in the past.
In this busy modern life, where sometimes we even don’t know our next-door neighbors, festivals like Holi are a great blessing.
Wishing the world a very happy and colourful Holi!

So miss the mothership for the festival. We don't have much of a celebration here in NZ. Hope India is glowing with the colours of this beautiful festival.
