I have been meaning to write this post for some time now but every time, for one reason or another, it got pushed off. But I can’t put it off any longer because if I do, I think, I might never get around to writing it.
There is a city in India called Agra. It is one of the oldest cities in India and one that boasts of a lot many historical monuments. When one visits any one of these monuments one gets transported to a different time. It seems that at any moment a King or any one of his courtiers will appear from around the corner.
The most famous of the many monuments in Agra is the Taj Mahal. Often counted among the Seven Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal has been a symbol of love for people over the centuries. Shah Jahan built the monument as a mausoleum to remember her dead beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Shah Jahan loved Mumtaz so much that he wanted to build a tomb for her that would be like no other ever built, and never would another one like it be built. Taj Mahal was the result of the emperor’s desire.
Till date wannabe Indian lovers try to woo girls by telling them they will build a Taj Mahal for them. I have always wanted to visit Taj Mahal, and to achieve that end I went to Agra one day but I guess I was before my time. It was a Wednesday and it so turns out that on Wednesday’s the Taj is not open for public view. So, I had to satisfy myself with looking at the magnificent building from a distance. It was sad but I hope I will get a chance to be there again and this time it will not be a Wednesday.

There are 21 finalists out of which the seven wonders will be chosen and the results will be announced on 7.7.07 in Lisbon, Portugal. I've visited the Taj Mahal a couple of times. It is absolutely magnificent.
I've also enjoyed visiting the Red Fort in Agra. It's a fascinating place.
Call me silly, but I'd rather a guy did something for me while I was still alive to enjoy it.
