My favorite movie quotes

With nothing much to say today, I thought it would be a good idea to share with you all a few of my favorite movie quotes, from movies that I have seen over the last few years. The quotes are in no other order than in which I could remember them as I was writing this post and I will stop, when I have quoted five of them.

“All my life I've lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!”

That is Hector in the movie Troy, talking to his soldiers, motivating them to fight against the Greeks. War is never a good thing, but there is something about this quote that struck me, and I think it is the simplicity of the code that Hector gives to his soldiers. If, even in today’s world we were to implement this in our live, not only would our lives become simpler, but also the world would become a better place to live in.

I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.”

Don Corleone, in the unforgettable movie Godfather. It’s just one of the lines that one hears and never forgets. There surely must be a reason for it, but, for now, I can’t pinpoint it.

“There will be a day when you will wish you had done a little evil to do a greater good.”

Sybilla, in the movie Kingdom of Heaven. The beauty of the quote is not in the quote but what happens after. Balian, to whom the above line is addressed, chooses not to do any evil at all. We often convince ourselves that it is ok to lie, or do a little evil, if it is for the general good. But, the truth is that when we talk about general good, we are being short-sighted. In the long run, lying or evil can never do any good, and that is something we should always try to remember.

“With great Power comes great responsibility.”

From the movie Spider man. This is a simple quote, but very profound in it’s meaning. In everyday life all of us crave power, but how many of us are really aware and ready to accept the responsibility that comes with that power.

The fifth quote is from the movie The Lord of the rings, but I can’t remember it right now and no amount of searching online has helped me. But, the quote had something to do with Bilbo Baggins saying that the road that starts at your doorstep can lead you to the greatest dangers. So, one needs to be prepared for anything and everything when one leaves one’s house. Now, I am not sure that this was in the movie. Maybe I am confusing it with a line in the book. Anyways wherever it was, it is a good line.

And before I go, maybe you would like to leave a comment and share with me your favorite quote from any movie.

Hi There,
you've got me trying to remember the LOTR quote now too. Is it this one?:

"it's a dangerous business, going out your door...you step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to"

But I'm sure there's another one about a great journey starting with a single step.

This is a great list. At them moment, Woodbury's state senator is in big trouble for getting a lowlife mobster to get a low-ranking mobster to beat up his granddaughter's boyfriend (who is now her husband). Though the beating never took place, the problem is real. So the Don Corleone quote could be a new bumper sticker for this guy's campaign. If nobody remembers where it came from, he'll be all right.

I enjoy your blog.
