BYBS : Superannuation

This week one of my bosses retired from work. He had been working with the organization for the past 37 years. And I had been working with him for the last four years. He was a gentleman, through and through. The one thing that everyone specially liked about him was that he never raised his voice, and kept his cool at all times.

A couple of farewell parties were organized on the occasion of his retirement.

Now, there is something about retirement parties that is very nostalgic. Everyone remembers the good times they have had working together, and the bad times - if there have been any - are usually forgotten. And in the present case it was especially so, because there were hardly any bad times to be forgotten, while there were many good to remember, and share.

Also, in today's day and time when anyone hardly sticks to one job, or organization, for any length of time, it is good to see someone happily retire from an organization after having served it for 37 years. May the rest of his life be peaceful and prosperous!

While, for the rest of you out there, I wish a great week ahead!

Yes, indeed! It is a blessing to have a boss with those kind of qualities. Hopefully, the person that takes his place will have learned from him and continue your blessings.

That's a great blessing, Neo. How nice to work with a veteran in your business and to like him.

I think such long-term commitments--from both companies and employees--are a rarity these days. For my father's generation, that was the norm. Now it seems people get laid off before they earn the big raises, and the employment volatility can be very disturbing for families. I hope you continue to have a good experience of your employer!

Happy BYB Sunday.

Sounds like he was a wonderful man as well as a boss, and you were blessed and he will be missed.
Very great post this week.

Wow! One place for 37 years? That's pretty amazing in this day and age.

Yikes. 37 years! Nobody does that anymore.

He must have liked his job.

How marvelous for him to be able to do so - youngsters these days do not get that opportunity.

Happy BYB Sunday and have a great week.

Wow, I do not think I have ever had a nice boss.

I remember when people went to work for one company out of high school or college and retired 20 years later.

Now, the companies fold, take the pensions or embezzle the funds and the people are left out in the cold.

Perhaps it is best to split your working life among many companies and to save for your own retirement.

I have to echo pretty much everyone's sentiment... but you know me...

I find the "bad times" are often remembered at times like that... but since they are passed, it's often remembered with a smile, a laugh, a thanks given for getting through them, and often a wry smile. :)

Paulie: I hope the same too!

Sandy: Even here there is still an entire generation that has been working with the same organization for over 25-30 years!

The Mama Bear : Thank you for your comment!

Whatever: It indeed is!

The Hotdogman: Yes, he did like his job...and I guess the people!

MsDemmie: Hope you have a great rest of the week too!

CyberCelt: I hope you get a good boss sometimes in the future. :o)

DoubleDeckerBusGuy: :) I agree!
